Comparison Review: Corn Silk Original and Semi-matt!

Corn Silk has been around for years and has been a staple in many parent's make up bags, but I don't feel that its as well known or used anymore, so I thought I'd do a review and a comparison between the two kinds that they do. I have the loose versions.

The Semi-matt version comes in a matt black box and the Original Satin version comes in a glossy black box. When you take away the black box, the packaging is the same, except it states which version on the label at the bottom. That is a pain. The product doesn't handle being moved about very well so I'd suggest finding a way to identify between the two (like tape or a sticker on the lid) if you have both. If you shake the product, it goes everywhere when you open and close it, so be very careful.
I'd give the packaging 5 out of 10 for this reason. The only bonuses being that the lid pulls of, not twist, so its fast and easy to open.

The product comes with a nice quality puff, that's very fluffy. I tend to use a kabuki brush or a big fluffy brush to apply the product, but if you don't have these, this is a good alternative. I wouldn't recommend travelling with loose Cornsilk, but if you did, the puff is handy.

Both varieties of this contain shimmer. It is microscopically small, and definitely not chunky. In my opinion, this is what makes this a HG powder for me. The shimmer makes your face look almost dewy, but not shiny or shimmery, it's just a lot more natural than any other powder and you don't need to use highlighter with it. It looks as if you haven't applied powder. I don't think it accentuates my oily t-zone, and it's much more long lasting than other powders I've tried, like Dream Matte powder.

The powder is as fine milled as silica HD powder. Its teeny! The powders are supposed to be translucent, and I would say they are on my extremely pale skin, but also on darker skin tones. It doesn't look ashy at all, and doesn't oxidise throughout the day.

Now for the comparison bit. The Original isn't much more shimmery but it is a little. If you disregard the shimmer, it is a natural looking powder that mattifies, but not completely. It is the most natural looking of the two. The Semi-matt has a very matt base plus the shimmer.

Overall, would I recommend this product? YES! Even for oily skin? YES.

I know that shimmer scares the hell out of people who have oily skin, me included, but this shimmer is different to any other kind I've seen and it blends in like crazy. It doesn't accentuate pores or shine.

This is my favourite face powder, and I can't see myself without one of them in my collection at all times...

These retail for £8.16 at Boots in the UK. I'm not sure about other retailers. I bought this myself on a 2 for £12 deal.
